General Info

Our Magazine Base Pad KITS contain everything needed to easily install base pads on 6 of your 1911 magazines. You provide the drill motor.

Each KIT contains the following items:

1 Custom Defensive Products MAGJIG™, 1911 Magazine Base Pad Drilling Fixture
1 #43 COBALT drill bit
Your choice of 6 pads in ONE of the following COLORS:
BLACK, BLUE, GREEN , RED , ORANGE or PINK of our 1911 Magazine Base Pads
(Select your desired COLOR from the drop down menu above.)
2, 4-40 thread cutting screws per pad included,
(2 screws per pad plus a few extras - not shown in photo above.)
A detailed instruction sheet for an easy installation.
The pads are essential for extending the overall length of the magazine.
They aid in the proper seating of the magazine in a speed reload
They assist in giving the magazine a "grip" on the bottom in the event of the mag becoming stuck.
They aid in protecting the magazine when hitting the ground when dropping free.
The pads are 1/2" thick and made from a durable hard nylon/plastic that is solvent resistant.
They have two .531" center-to-center spaced holes.
A tap is NOT essential or necessary as the thread cutting screws will cut their own threads on entry.

Use various colors to personalize and identify your magazines, and distinguish between calibers,
load types, order of use etc.

A Top Notch drilling fixture, 5.12.2012

I bought one of these kits to update some of my older 1911 magazines.
This fixture is an excellent solution for adding base pads and getting professional results.
The pads that came in the kit are high quality as well.
Following the well written instructions that were included, I had 8 magazines drilled perfectly in less than a half hour.
The last 2 were a little more difficult from being hardened from the older base welding process which basically case hardens the surface.
This was easily solved with a few passes on some coarse grit sandpaper to remove the outer layer. After that, the cobalt drill bit cut through them like butter.
I also bought a 4-40 tap which made the job even easier.

FAQs

Q: Will this also work on 9mm officer sized mags?

A: Yes, the MAGJIG and pads will work for all officer sized magazines in any caliber, that have a flat, welded, non-removable base.
Many have pre-drilled holes, but if yours do not, the MAGJIG will properly position the holes for drilling and they will align perfectly with all of our base pads.
